Packaging quality control
for brand owners

CMC Quality Management is an offer to implement a packaging quality control department for brand owners who order packaging with CMYK, Pantone, CMYKOGV prints.

What is quality control?

The implemented solutions in the field of packaging quality control allow brand owners to maintain repeatable quality of printing products by defining production conditions and controlling deliveries. Our implementations ensure compliance of production runs with applicable printing standards and good manufacturing practice regardless of the technology in which the packaging or labels are made. Packaging quality control for brand owners is based on the digitization of color standards and supplementing the subjective assessment of color compliance through digital verification of printing production in the entire run and within the scope of deliveries.

By implementing CMC Quality for brand owners you will gain:

  • improving communication between the brand owner’s procurement department and the packaging supplier
  • achieving repeatable quality of printing production regardless of the printing technology
  • diversification of suppliers of printing products due to clearly defined production rules and terms of cooperation
  • digital confirmation of optical compliance of packaging enabling clear rules of cooperation
  • you will minimize the number of color complaints and gain digital data confirming their validity in the event of non-conformity,
  • you will automate the color acceptance process

The offer to implement the quality control department of ordered packaging is profiled depending on the industry:

The scope of CMC Quality’s work is focused on four areas

Supplier Expectations

  • Ensuring target color consistency regardless of printing conditions and technology
  • Digitization of color patterns
  • Defining working conditions, target standards and compliance level of packaging production
  • Ongoing training in the field of knowledge regarding good manufacturing practices regarding the acceptance of flexographic, offset, rotogravure and digital printing

Defining color and quality requirements by the brand owner

  • Defining color standards physical proof, master print + digitization of color patterns to maintain consistency and repeatability of production
  • Defining the printing conditions appropriate for a given printing production (surface/back; substrate/lamination; ink sequence/ink system; screening)
  • Implementation of control fields (color bars) into the imposition project for digital control of production conformity and its repeatability

Expectations regarding color reproduction and print quality

  • The CMCQuality project requires that the supplier of printing products undergoes an initial audit of the printing house and periodically meets the guidelines of international and industrial standards
  • Spot and process colours are evaluated in D50/2º colorimetry with a manufacturing tolerance of 2.5 ∆E2000 and standards from the ISO 12647-X group.
  • To be compliant, a Score of 80% must be achieved in the production report.
  • To be compliant, a Score of 80% must be achieved with gray balance maintained.
  • Each printing product is subject to optical and digital evaluation, which guarantees the highest level of production compliance and ensures its repeatability while maintaining appropriate production procedures and compliance levels.

Digitization, reporting of printing production, collection of production data and reissues

  • Implementation of a production reporting system in the printing house, depending on the capabilities of the machine or printing technology, in offline or online mode.
  • After each press sheet has been measured, the report must be sent to a folder provided in PressSign Cloud
  • At least five press sheets of production material must be provided for each production cycle.
  • In addition to digital compliance (Score >80%), each production should be confirmed by optical compliance with a designated standard or certified proof.
  • If the results are satisfactory, the collected data allows production to be resumed in digital and optical compliance, allows the brand owner to classify suppliers in terms of their work quality and repeatability, and reduces the need for colourist visits during acceptance to a minimum, which allows for avoiding subjective assessments.
  • Process standardization focused on ISO-12647 depending on the printing technology, which allows for changing the supplier at any time without worrying about maintaining color consistency for a given product line.
  • Annual audits of the printing house allow for systematic maintenance of production conditions and SOP procedures in compliance with international and industry standards.

The scope of CMC Quality’s work is focused on four areas: repeatability, reliability, control and optimization of printing production.
Repeatability of production begins with the establishment of real standards and tolerance ranges. We care about their documentation and further effective communication at all stages of the project implementation. Thanks to the supervision of specialized auditors, you will gain the certainty that the contractor is aware of the task entrusted to him. The control will provide an audit of all stages of printing reproduction responsible for the final result. These three areas will enable optimization and ensure the efficiency of reproduction regardless of the number of suppliers and printing technologies.
